Michael is an independent professional director.

He grew up in Whangārei, lives near Kirikiriroa on a lifestyle block surrounded by a dairy farm, and has family connections to the Eastern BOP.

Michael is a Chartered Accountant, a lawyer, a Chartered Member of the NZ Institute of Directors, and is a member of Forest and Bird. He worked in the dairy industry for more than a dozen years ranging from relief milking when at university to financial reporting in the initial years of Fonterra.

Current governance roles include The Treasury Risk and Audit Committee, Iwi commercial governance, horticulture, construction and property. Previous governance has included education (Waikato Institute of Technology Ltd), insurance and health.

Michael is passionate about social and environmental progress built on inclusive decision making so as to improve where we work, live and play. A focus of his is identifying measures which will work to address climate change nationally, and in our businesses and our communities.
